A total of 13 army officers, including the country’s Chief of Defense Staff Bipin Rawat and his wife, have been killed in a helicopter crash in India. Biography of Rawat: Bipin Rawat was born on March 17, 1956, in an army family in Uttarakhand. In 1986, he joined the 5th Battalion of the 11th Gorkha Rifles of the Indian Army for the first time. His father was also in that unit. Rawat had special skills in counter-terrorism operations. As a Major, he has experience working in the Uri sector of Jammu and Kashmir. He was elected a Lieutenant in the Indian Army in 1970. He then became Major General in 2011, Lieutenant General in 2014, and Chief of Army Staff in 2016. In 2019, Bipin Rawat was elected Chief of Defense Staff (CDS). During his 40 years of service, he was awarded many honors by the Army.
