‘Rickshaw Girl’ awarded at German festival

Rickshaw Girl directed by Amitabh Reza Chowdhury has won the award at the Schlingel International Film Festival 2021 in Germany. The names of the awardees were announced on the closing night of the festival yesterday. This Bangladeshi film has won the SLM Top Award in the Junior Film category of the festival.

The Schlingel International Film Festival has been held since 1998. The 26th edition of the festival started on October 9 in Germany. Every year, films from all over the world are selected for children and teenagers and the best films in different categories are nominated. From among the nominated films, the judges selected ‘Rickshaw Girl’ for the highest award in the junior film category. The organizers said that although it is a picture of children and teenagers, it is a picture that all people like.

Nafis Amin and Sharbari Johra Ahmed co-wrote the screenplay based on Mitali Perkins’ Rickshaw Girl, an Indian-American author.

Reacting to the award, Amitabh Reza Chowdhury told Prothom Alo, ‘It is good to see the film. Lots of pictures for 15-16 year old visitors. There was also a picture of the famous Iranian director Majid Majidi this year. The film will also be screened on the opening night of the Vancouver Asian International Film Festival this year. All in all, it feels good. If all goes well, the film will be released to audiences across the country next year. ‘

Also starring Champa, Momena Chowdhury, Naresh Bhuiyan, Allen Shuvro and others. The film is a joint production of Bangladesh and the United States.
